Para quienes orgullosos participamos en algún momento de parte o de toda la historia del Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria MIR, es una lamentable y tristísima noticia, la muerte de quien fue uno de sus fundadores, miembro de su primer Comité Central y del Secretariado Político y posterior Comisión Política del MIR. Preclaro dirigente y luchador social y revolucionario. Me refiero al compañero y destacado intelectual y sociólogo Nelson Gutiérrez Yañez.
Fue un destacado líder en Concepción y en el Norte de Chile y en todo el país. Después del quiebre del que fuera acaso, el primer destacamento de la izquierda chilena que se fundó bajo la política, estrategia y organización de un partido político militar de cuadros con fuerte presencia de masas, Nelson, el Guatón como le decíamos quienes creímos y seguimos sus propuestas, fue el máximo dirigente del MIR Político, y desde él, como dijera un compañero en el medio digital Correo de los Trabajadores "se jugó la carta de refundar el MIR bajo una línea política que impidiera la debacle en marcha y su destrucción selectiva y siguiera jugando un rol político en Chile", y quien desde sus análisis y acciones, junto a otros destacados líderes como Martín Hérnandez y Jécar Neghme, levantó la propuesta de la lucha política de masas contra la dictadura y la participación del partido en la confrontación plebiscitaria para el triunfo del NO.
Fue un formador de juventudes, especialmente de la generación del 80. Quienes tuvimos el privilegio de ser formados directa o indirectamente por él, en los planos de la lucha teórica y política, agradecemos su enorme, enriquecedor y antidogmático aporte, que aún hoy tiene vigencia. Muchos de los que fuimos jóvenes en los peores años de la dictadura, somos depositarios de su herencia y cada cual en su respectivo puesto de combate, lo llevamos en el corazón y en la mente, usando las herramientas teóricas, políticas y organizativas que nos entregara y sobretodo recogiendo su experiencia y su ejemplo en la breve pero fecunda historia de nuestro rojo y negro que brillara con luz propia en el cielo azul de Chile.
Adelante compañeros y compañeras, con todas las fuerzas de la historia, en el recuerdo del Guatón Gutiérrez, el Guti, nuestro Nelson, y de todos aquellos y aquellas que aprendimos a hacer política bajo su influjo, inteligencia y energía.
